tintypes and ambrotypes

These are the images I made at the wet plate collodion workshop. Finally dry and scanned. Thanks to the other workshop members for sitting for me! And my brother Vince, of course.

Thanks Vince, for being my fabulous model!!!

This last one is the only glass negative/ambrotype that I made. Next time I do this I am going to make more glass negatives, they are such lovely objects.

Mornings with Bowie

So I thought I'd show what a typical morning at our house is like when I don't have to rush off at the crack of dawn... (Experimenting with my new gear. Click on a picture to see it bigger.)

The end.

new camera

So I just bought the 5D Mark II fancy-pants camera. It was time for an upgrade in the digital realm. I have to say, while it is nothing like my 4x5...it is nothing like my 4x5 -- in a fun way.

wet plate collodion workshop

These first few pictures aren't the studio we were working in, however it is the most beautiful studio I have ever been in. I was tempted to chain myself to the radiator and refuse to leave. This wall of glass went up two stories and continued as the ceiling. Like a half greenhouse.

They wheel out an antique 11x14 camera.

Eric Taubman and the workshop assistant set up the 11x14. We didn't shoot with this camera, we just played with it and drooled a little. Ok, a lot.

Eric shows the wet plate back for the 11x14 camera.

Legs. haha.

 From the roof looking down.

So there were 7 of us. This is the first set of tintypes we made. Guess which one is mine. It's not a self portrait.

My evil twin. Thanks to Brad for immortalizing me on tin.

another unheeded sign

They really don't want you to fold their menus. Stir-sticks seem to help...
